A Survey Faux Pas: Loaded Question

As I mentioned on last week’s post, precise questions are integral to the survey design process.

Let’s take a look at the loaded question.  This is the type of survey question that already comes with an assumption.

Here’s an example:

What is your favorite football team?

This is a faulty question because not everyone is a football fan.  Some of the respondents might follow different sports, while others may even have distinct interests.

Here’s a tip: ask if they follow the sport first and then use survey logic to move forward with the necessary questions.

Remember, your survey data is at risk with loaded questions.  Not only are you exposed to inaccurate and biased responses, but to an increase in survey abandonment rates.

If you have any questions about survey design, feel free to get in touch and I’d be happy to help.
