Survey Design Tidbit #8: Filtering Questions

Hello!

Let’s go back to survey design for a bit and talk about filtering questions.

Do you remember when we covered skip logic on a previous post? Well, filtering questions can walk your respondents through the right questions and ease survey completion.

Let’s say you want to understand consumer shopping behavior:

Rather than assuming that your respondents love to shop, a good first filtering question can be about their shopping frequency.

If they happen to be avid shoppers, the next filtering question can be whether they shop online or retail. From there you can ask follow-up questions based on their answers.

Adding filtering questions to your next survey is a great way to get the insights that you need.

Thank you so much and stay safe!
