Optimize Your Survey Using a Likert Scale

When it comes to survey design, the Likert Scale is one of the most useful questions out there.

So, what is a Likert Scale?

This survey tool uses a scale that allows you to gauge the respondent’s attitude or perception about something.

Here’s a quick example: if you were to assess the performance of your customer service representatives, the Likert Scale would come in handy.

An Example of a Likert Scale

As you can see above, several statements are grouped together and being assessed by a range of responses.

In this case, it is kept odd and using a 1-5 range.  The reasons are to keep the scale balanced, provide the respondent with a midpoint and to ensure survey data quality.

Also, the options on the scale range are bipolar, which means that they extend from one extreme to the other.

A great thing about the Likert Scale question is that the survey data sets are easy to interpret and you can draw insights rather quickly.
